                                          Pink Felt Bunny

I saw some cute eggs and Bunnies at Pinterest and decided to make my own pattern for the egg.  I just drew a freehand drawing of an egg shape for the eggs.
The Bunnies were two different patterns that I used.

Pattern One

Pattern Two

Felt Eggs

I drew a few egg shapes and then pinned the cut out eggs on the felt that I wanted to use.

                           White felt buttons and beads

I cut two eggs for each finished egg. I attached the ribbon and lace on first. Then I embroidered each egg front with Embroidery floss. I used from two to six strands for each stitch.  I sewed on the buttons and beads lastly.

White felt egg no buttons and beads

After each egg front is completed I stitched each of the front and back of the egg together except the top two inches. Then I added a small amount of Poly Fill to each egg. Then I finished sewing up the egg. I added a loop of Embroider floss at the top so one could hang the egg.
Some of the eggs I made with out beads or buttons to mail.  I could just use a regular envelope for mailing the eggs with out beads or buttons.  The eggs with the buttons and beads are cuter I think, but require a padded envelope.

Tree

You can make a "tree" to hang the eggs and bunnies and add some of the mini lights on the tree. The mini lights have a battery. We did this for several holidays and as gifts. Here is one that we made for a friend with chocolate candy hearts hanging with glued on ribbon.
My daughter used a branch from a tree that was about two feet tall. Placed in a large two quart size bucket from the dollar store. You can alternately use a 46 ounce can. You can decorate the bucket or not. For Christmas we used a piece of cloth tied with a ribbon. Fill the can with glass rocks from the dollar store. They look like flat marbles.  Fill to enough to hold the tree branch in place about 6 inches. You can then decorate your "tree" with each Holiday design.

Here is the Tree we made for Valentines Day.

Bucket is finished with some pink tissue paper on top of the glass rocks decorated for Valentines day.
Here is a link to a great tutorial to make a branch tree for Easter:

I made about 24 eggs. I have a lot of people I make gifts for so I need to make a lot of eggs!

Bunnies

I cut out several paper bunnies and laid the patterns on the felt of the colors I wanted to use.

Decorate bunnies

For each bunny I added a pom pom for the tail of the profile bunny.
Sew two bunnies together except for two inches at the flat side near the tail.  Stuff with poly fill. Sew on pom pom.  If you do not have pom poms cut a circle and add it to the back before you sew the bunny closed.  With embroidery floss sew a few whiskers, eye and a nose.

Bunny with white felt tail

For the full face bunny

I cut out the bunny pattern and then pinned the patterns to the felt. Cutting two for each bunny you want to make.

I made feet for some of the bunnies out of an oval shape two for each bunny.

Pin feet on the front of each bunny, white felt pinned for the tails when I ran out of pom poms

Placement of feet for each embroidered bunny

Embroider eyes, nose and whiskers on the front of each bunny. Then add the feet.

Add a pom pom on the back for the tail

Sew shut as you did for the other bunny and stuff with poly fill. Sew remaining two inches closed.

Using cloth material for bunnies

Back of bunny to show the pom pom placement

The following year I did not have any colors of felt to make bunnies so I just used some material I had from other sewing projects.
I did the same as above for each bunny as for sewing and stuffing. Using two pieces of material I sewed the material with right sides together.  Then I turned it right side out. Then you can stuff as before and sew the last two inches together.
I used puffy paint to draw the eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers. I attached the pom pom on the backs of the bunnies.

More bunnies, a basket and an egg

I used white felt for the tails on these two bunnies as I ran out of pom poms. Add white felt before you sew the bunny closed.

Happy Spring!

Pinterest Felt Birds

Red and White felt birds

I did not have a pattern for these cute birds that I had seen at Pinterest.
I hand drew from the two photos a bird and the wing designs.
I cut out all the parts in felt. I sewed the two bird parts one red and one white together with red floss. After I sewed the running stitch on two sets of the these parts I tacked the two sets together at the nose and the top of the two sets. This held the birds together as shown in the photo.
I held the four wings in the order as shown with the red wing under and slightly above the white wing, so that the red wings were under the white wings. With all 8 layers [!]
I carefully made a double X to hold all the layers. You could also sew the two bodies together first with two X 's and then add the four wings. Either way you need to make two big X to hold the four wings to the four body parts. Leaving the end parts open as shown in the photo - you do not need to tack these parts together.
I have saved all the patterns on this page at my Pinterest account here

Hand drawn body and wings

Looking at the general shape of the bird with a pointy end for the beak and the smooth rounded ends for the tail feathers, I drew the pattern.
I made my wings not as wide as their wings. I always make my interpretations a bit different as not to infringe on their design.
A lot of people pin their work projects to Pinterest with no webpage or words to express whether it is a copyright design or not. I always look to check if there is a copyright on the design or words to that effect if there is a website. So I use their general ideas or a lot of ideas and roll all those designs into my own design. That way there is no infringement.

You can see how the body parts are attached - one red and one white body. Tacking the two sets together with the red parts of the body on the insides.

You can see how I carefully stitched the bird at the front in just a few places around the head. I also made a few stitches to tack the two sets together at the top of the bird.
I tried to hide the stitches in the red felt part so the stitching was not obvious.

Cleaning up the felt

After all the stitching is done you can take your sharp scissors and trim the felt so that the white covers most of the red from the outside.

                              My Purple Cupcake

I love Pinterest and I have over 60 Boards there that I have added hundreds of Pins to of Projects that I love or want to do or have done.
I saw these cute felt cupcakes and when my middle granddaughter was having her 20th Birthday this year [2017] it was to be a cupcake theme. After the party I decided to see if there was some felt cupcakes I could make her for Christmas.

Three designs I found on Pinterest.  One of the reasons I make my tutorials is because sometimes the items on Pinterest are just photos and no instructions or they are something for sale at Etsy or a Flicker photo.

I always change up my designs as to not make an exact copy of what is online in case the item is copyrighted.  I do not copyright any of my designs. They are all FREE.

The Three Pink Cupcakes I made for my Granddaughter

Supplies

You will need felt color of your choice.  Embroidery floss, Buttons and beads of your choice.  Polyfill, pins, needles, sharp scissors.  Paper for pattern.

Pattern
So from what I saw at Pinterest I hand drew my designs for my pattern.

I freehand drew the two parts and used a ruler for the base.
I decided to make them a bit larger than a cupcake that you would eat.  They are more like big Muffin size.

1.  Choose your felt colors.  Cut two of the middle part and only one of the top part.  Cut out two of the cupcake bottom.

2. Choose your buttons and other beads for the two top parts.

3. Choose your embroidery floss colors to match or contrast you color scheme for your cupcake.

My one Granddaughter loves the pink colors so I choose the Ombre design for her Pink cupcakes.

Embroidery is next for the parts

Using two strands of floss for all the embroidery.

I started with the White top. I added the large button first so I had an orientation as to where I wanted that to be.
Next I added the crystal seed beads with the smallest needle I had.

The middle layer

I pinned the white top layer over the top of one of the middle layers so that was oriented correctly so I knew where I could sew the buttons on.
I used two strands of floss for the buttons as well.

I sewed on the larger buttons first, then added the smaller buttons and filled in with the smaller beads.

Next attach the white top to the middle layer with the buttons at this point. I did a running stitch with two strands of floss.

Next I made the vertical lines on one piece of the bottom layer.
Once that is done you can put all the parts together.

Using a running stitch around two sides of the cupcake bottom and sides sew the two bottom part together. I again used two strands of Floss. [See Illustration below.]

Lightly stuff both the middle and the bottom parts with Polyfil.

Next start your running stitch on the completed middle part.
Pin your middle part so it overlaps the bottom part of the cupcake so that the middle front and back cover the bottom. See back of cupcake photo below.

Start at the X A and go up and around to the top and slightly under the white part of the cupcake and down around to the X B part.

Once that is done you can finish between the B and back to the A area.

Back of cupcake showing stitching details

If you are going to use the cupcake as an ornament you can add a ribbon as shown here on the back side. I use the 1/8 size satin ribbon.  I use about 8 to 10 inches of ribbon.

Red Cupcakes

My youngest granddaughter loves red so she requested red cupcakes with a brown or "Chocolate" colored cupcake bottom.

Her Mom, my daughter, found this cute Corduroy type felt for the Chocolate cupcake bottom.
So I made two for her.

This photo does make them look dark pink, however the felt is very dark red.  Note  that on the cupcake on the left has decorations in the shape of shells, circles, fish, and a butterfly.
Here you can see how I use the tiny crystal seed beads on the top for the "sugar" they like to add on the real cupcakes.

I had a lot of fun making these cupcakes.
I am going to make some 3 dimensional cupcakes next such as shown in this photo from Pinterest!
Tutorial on that when I complete that project.

Happy New Year 2018

2017 Wrap up

My Christmas tree and the snow outside Dec 25, 2017

I am welcoming 2018 with hopeful anticipation.  Many on social media have expressed that 2017 was filled with a lot of tragedies.

In my own circle, this was very true. The fires in California were devastating.  My former husband and his wife lost their home in the Santa Rosa area in the #Tubbsfire.  For more information on the Tubbs Fire see this link: #Tubbsfire

My daughter and her fiance were on the edge of the evacuation zone in Santa Rosa. I have other cousins, Aunt and Uncle and friends who were evacuated. When my daughter and my son lived in Lake county they were evacuated several times several years as I have posted before here in my blog.

A cousin's daughter's cousin was in Labor and delivered a baby Sunday Oct 8 only to have to be evacuated from the Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa a few hours later early on Monday Oct 9.

I have not heard yet about my cousin who lives in the Santa Barbara area of how they or her house are doing.

Our beloved Batman Kitty has passed away.  He fell out the third story window on my son's apartment.  He must have survived because 6 weeks later they found him on the side of the road.  He had been hit by a car. He was gone.  He had a scar on his head we presume was from the fall out the window.
Here is a photo of Batman in the flyer my daughter and son posted.  They had many who searched for him for 6 weeks. RIP our beloved Batman.

            My son Martin holding Batman - 2011 - 2017

This was the very saddest news of 2017 for my family and friends.

There are good things in 2017 and we are all grateful for that.

My Tutorials

I have added several tutorials this year of my craft projects.

I had intended on adding more however I had several illnesses and injuries so I got behind.  My foot was injured in June; I pulled my right thigh ligaments in August and have had some Irritable Bowel Syndrome flare ups in November.  Thankfully I am feeling almost healed from all.

I will be working on these Tutorials this year.

Additionally my computer had issues. It was 10 years old and was laboring hard until things would just not work.

So I was using my backup my Laptop.

I have a lot of things I backed up on CD and DVD so thankfully I have the photos for the tutorials.

So I just need to write the tutorials.

Here are some of the Tutorials I am working on.

The Felt Kitties

The first group I made were to hang on the Christmas tree. The second group people were requesting magnet for the back as shown on the white kitty on the right so they could put the kitty on the refrigerator,.

The Felt Cupcakes

This first group was made with felt and I embroidered the bottom of the cupcakes,

These two were specifically requested by my youngest grand daughter to be all RED with "Chocolate" colored cupcake bottoms.
My daughter found the brown "corduroy" felt so there was no need to embroider that part.

More Tutorials coming in 2018!

Happy New Year 2018!!!
